His Royal Majesty,
Oba (Prof.) Sáká Adélolá Ayokanmi Mátemilola, Oluyalo‑Otileta VII
14TH OLOWU OF OWU KINGDOM
Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria
Oba (Prof.) Sáká Adélolá Ayokanmi Mátemilola, Oluyalo‑Otileta VII, is the 14th Olowu of Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. He was selected and crowned in July–October 2022 following traditional rites by kingmakers led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, marking a solemn eight-day ceremony that affirmed his position as paramount ruler . Born August 4, 1964, into the Otileta ruling house, Prof. Matemilola holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan and earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge .
His leadership has been transformative: through initiatives like the “Olowu Hope Initiative,” he has delivered free school meals, installed boreholes, improved sanitation and healthcare, empowered women and youth via micro‑loans, and developed a 3,000‑acre agribusiness cooperative—all of which earned him recognition in the Nigerian Books of Record for humanitarian contribution .
At the heart of his reign stands a beautiful royal family: he is married to Olori Adijat Bamidele Matemilola and Olori Ameenat Adeleye Matemilola, and together they are blessed with four children—Princess Aminat Moyosore, Prince AbdulMuizz Ayokanmi, Prince AbdulKareem Olusegun, and Princess Hadhrat Jadesola . Olori Adijat, also known as Olori Khadijah, actively leads the Oba Oluyalo Otileta Foundation, providing vital education, empowerment, and welfare programs, especially for women and children, and was honored as Distinguished Sports Diplomacy, Culture & Tourism Ambassador at a Lagos SWAN event .
Oba Matemilola’s sovereignty is further strengthened by his scholarly background, professional roles in engineering and petroleum, and cooperative governance through his Olowu-in-Council cabinet within the ancient Owu tradition . Former President Obasanjo even described him as “God-sent” and pledged continued support for his unity-driven and development-oriented reign .
